If the harmonic balancer slips the timing would not be correct. Keep it at 6 degrees, or you'll have too much at wot. Certain rpm ranges of the arap have as much as 38 degrees all in. Try setting your tps to .60 and see if it helps. That will give it a bit more fuel off idle.

Hey again...car was running nice for awhile...drove it very spirited the other day and now its back to the slow crappy idle.....checked the timing again and wayyy retarded.

Looks like i owe my mechanic an apology. It seems that my Harmonic Balancer has slipped/moved...he was right.

Ive have timed it by ear to get the car running "better" until i can have the HB replaced.

I also noticed a slight vibration at around 1400rpm the past little while...i hope the new balancer will correct this also

I still dont see how the engine timing can physically change because the outer core of the balancer has moved??

Can someone explain what is going on here...much appreciated

The timing does not change when the balancer moves, are you sure your distributer gear is not wearing. I have seen this many times.

Mechanic says he checked the balancer today and said thats not the issue...he pulled the crank pulley and lined the the key notch from the new balancer to old and the timimg marks on both balancers lined up perfectly ..he says it good.

Mechanic also said he checked for play in the timing chain by grabbing hold of the balancer and turning the crank back and forth while he was under there checking the HB....very slight play in the chain(engine cold)

He is going to check the distributor gear tomorrow sometime.
The dist. was taken apart by another tech last month to change the pick up coil....you would think he would have noticed wear on the gear? maybe he buggered something putting the gear/pin back on?
