Take the MEMCAL out of the ECM. If it's not there then it can't turn on the SES light. Is the SES light still on?

I doubt the EPROM is bad unless it's the wrong one for your car. Do you know the BCC (BroadCast Code) -- the 3 or 4 letters on the silver label? My '86 with automatic transmission and 3.07 differential ratio is BUA.

The MEMCAL silver label should look like this (mine says BUA 1728):

Does the SES light go out if you unplug the ECM?

The SES light should be on if the engine is not running.

Does it go out if you start the engine?

¡Me olvidé la pregunta más importante!

Does the SES light flash if you connect ALDL terminals A & B and turn on the ignition?

I looked up the resistor pack numbers (16055375 & 16055376) on this site:

http://www.exatorq.com/ludis_obd1/calxref.html

According to that site your MEMCAL is for a 1987 305 cubic inch (5.0 liter) Camaro or Firebird engine with TPI.

That's one reason your scanner cannot connect to the ECM -- wrong VIN. You need a VIN for a 1987 Camaro or Firebird.

This memcal is completely incorrect. It is for speed density #1, and #2 it is for a 6 cylinder. You need a Corvette mass air memcal.

are you sure about that. wwwooooo.

so according to this my memcal is not correct. but the ecm is ok. all I have to do is get the correct mencal.

this will bring up a question. so this memcal is affecting my performance also. since my car never run 100% right. I never been happy the way my engine runs.

another question come up. what is the correct MEMCAL I have to get.

I finally found it. ARPL 5180 is a 91 3.1 manual trans.

See here:

I'M WRONG!

I thought the picture Cliff posted was yours. I'm sorry. If the one you have is for a 305 TPI it can be reprogrammed, or piggybacked which would save you from mailing it to the US. www.tpiparts.com will sell you a piggyback for $75.

If Cliff is correct that yours is a 305. See if it will scan using vin code F instead of 8. I'd hate to see you spend money, and not have it work. I could even sell you one, but let's wait for Cliff to see what he thinks.

I believe you have cast iron heads with an automatic transmission. Is that correct?

If so, we just need to know what rear axle ratio you have.

These are the BCCs (BroadCast Codes) for 1986:

Code:
AMA 8848 Manual trans, 3.07 rear end ratio
AARL 1010
AARL 1734
AML 8934 Manual trans, 3.07 rear end ratio
AARK 3921
BUA 1728 Auto trans, 3.07 rear end ratio
BUA 9340
BUC 9355 Auto trans, 2.59 rear end ratio
BUM 9398 Manual trans, 3.07 rear end ratio
AANK 1732 Auto trans, 2.59 rear end ratio
