Default Headers burning up my wires!!! >:(

Hi guys, I installed a set of hedmen headers on my '85, and my headers are burning up my wires. Is there anything I can do to protect them that will work? Thanks!

Is it the wires or the boots. If it's the wires, move them out of the way using wire looms or insulate them. If the boots, you need shorter plugs or dimpled primaries.

What is your wiring harness doing down there?

It's the one on the passenger side that runs next to the a/c and heater components. It was there when I got the car and it has holes for the little Christmas tree fastener belt things that wrap around the harness.

some of the guys here may boo me for saying so but some nice black fiberglass header weave would work great and it looks good too (if done right)

Go to the auto parts store and get some thermal tape to wrap it in. I used it on the harness I made for the wiring to the starter. Wrap the loom in it not just the wires. Also the wiring loom you get at the auto parts store is not rated for under hood temps most of the time.

Unless you have stainless steel or coated headers, header wrap can eat up headers after a couple of years.

Use the factory wire holders and all should be fine. My wires are 7 years old and still look new.
