Default Melrose headers?

Anybody here running Melrose headers? How do you like them? Were they fairly easy to install? Any tube denting or other alteration? I am looking real hard at them but want to be sure I will like them before I lay out that kind of money. I have Hedmans on the car now and they were always easy to R&R, I've read where too many guys have had to alter Hooker's to fit so they are out. Any other brands you are running, tell me about them as long as they will fit my '85.

Excellent fit. No alterations required. Plug clearance no problem with angled plug heads. Install was straight forward.

I know a few guys that have the TPIS headers and like them... I was going to get them myself but I needed a set right away and TPIS didn't have them in stock at the time...I ended up with Hooker Super Comp ceramic headers and they fit great and I have had no problems with them after 3 years...The only thing with the Hooker headers is there Y pipe won't fit if you have an automatic trans, it hits the edge of the trans pan , I had to cut and weld mine to make it fit..Your running true duals so this wouldn't affect you anyway....I have never heard anyone say anything bad about Melrose Headers so they should be a good choice.....

PS...Melrose also makes a great Targa Top, but I think we covered that pretty well on here a while back.........WW

Nothing at all against the Hedmans but they have been on my car forever and the ceramic is starting to flake off. My one complaint is the regular Hedmans, which is what I have, have got thin flanges on both the top & bottom collector flange. this has been a constant source of irritating leaks. If you have the elites series you will be fine.

We have definitely covered the targa here. I got mine from Melrose, went right to the company and they installed it for me, very nice people. They had just finished their first C4 headers while I was there and they really impressed me, beautiful work.
I had completely forgot about TPIS, thanks, I'll look into those. It's also good to hear about the fit of your Hooker's.

Have had the Melrose black ceramic coated for 5+ years. Sound great but I cant compare from stock to these as I swapped heads at the same time.

I'm using TPiS. They work with all the stock brackets. They do need angled plugs.

I just put a pair of Melrose on my '90 earlier this year and no problems. I chose to omit the AIR which really cleaned up the engine compartment. Access to the plugs with my stock heads is still good. There are many choices out here but I have no regrets and happy with my decision.

Spark plug access is one of the main things I am wondering about. I am getting a crate engine and I think it has straight plug heads. If the TPIS needs angled plugs then that rules them out. Thanks!

I didn't see anywhere on the site that said they only fit angled plug heads , but I would call them to verify....WW

I had them on my L-98 and I put their swap headers on my LS when I did the swap. Fantastic product and even better company. When I did my swap I ground the coating off to put in o2 bungs. Later the top of the tubes started to discolor. They took them back and recoated them free of charge including shipping and didn't even give me grief about the alterations I made they just recoated that part too. Fit like a glove and plug changes are a breeze.

I like the Melrose and didn't have to alter anything in my 91 to get them to fit.

TPiS told me they would work with straight plugs. They did not. I had to make a special tool to install the #6 plug and they melted plug wires. I ended up swapping to angle plug heads with my new build.

Well, the majority wins, Melrose it is. Thanks guys I appreciate the input and that goes for the other brands too. I had pretty much settled on Melrose before I posted this but wanted to get some opinions first. I really like the exhaust they sell that goes from the headers to the mufflers so I will be ordering the whole thing. I am lucky enough to be close enough that I can go get them and inspect them before I buy.
