Default HELP!

Installed the AIR pump eliminator last night, was running fine. Today I hear a flapping sound. Seems like the belt is riding high on the eliminator pulley and flapping back down. On startup and ile its fine, once it gets revved up, it starts doing this thing, and never lines back up unles I turn it off. Everything looks lined up, there is no shimmy or wobble- what can it be? Belt tensioner looks like it grabbed all the slack, but I can almost pull the belt off a pully if I try. Any help??? Ideas???

Scorp?

if you can pull the tension on the idler pully, then the tensioner is DOA...

make sure that everything is nice and tight, too...

Everything is tight- the tensioner is brand new- worked fine last night with the AIR pump on.

I would put the AIR pump on and see if the problem goes away. I had a hell of a time with mine. After installing it I kept breaking alternators. For some reason now though it is lined up perfect and very happily doing it's job.

Did you put any washers between the plastic tubes and the cylinder head? I think that was my mistake. I don't know what I was thinking but I put one on each bolt there. When put it on again I didn't do that and it lines up great.

No- I didnt put any- but i think i know what it is.......the belt seems a bit loose, I can pull on it and draw tension on the tensioner, but its new.....I do have underdrive pulleys (3 piece) and this new pulley is much smaller than the old one on the factory pump, could be not enough tension? Maybe I need to go shorter on the belt b/c I cant get more tension on the tensioner. What do you guys think?????

If you have underdrive pulleys, you cannot use the stock belt. You need a shorter one.

p.s.

Look and see what you are getting for voltage on the voltometer. I'm wondering if the alternator is slipping and spinning fast enough also if the belt is that loose.

yeah I know- i already have a 90.5 in there, but I noticed the new dead pulley is smaller than the old pulley on the AIR pump- can I re-adjust the tensioner to provide more tension??? right now its lays almost perfectly perpendicular to the horizontal frame member in front of it, cant I loosen the nut, and raise it higher then, tighten up the nut to provide a bit more tension?

Is it typical for belts to ride up on a pulley when they are loose?

Thanks

One of those things?? I just loosened it all up, jiggled it a bit, tightened it back up, and its been fine all night. We'll see how it goes.
