I've searched to the best of my ability to find the information I need, but can't find it. I need help. I have an 86 automatic pretty much stock. Intermittent stalling at idle. Can be at red light, stop sign, in the garage. Starts right back up. Have owned the car since 2001. It started doing this about 4 years ago. Had new motor put in about 2 years ago and had no trouble until this summer. Problem came back. Idles fine. No codes. Have put in new fuel pump; fuel pressure is fine. New fuel filter and a jillion other parts. Everything under the hood is new. This car was the love of my life, as I love Corvettes, but I have gotten to hate this car. Have had it to mechanic after mechanic to no avail. I am not a mechanic. I can do simple repairs. Thanks Guys.
You should get a code if the EGR is not working right. I would check the Throttle Position Sensor to see if it's reading right after you come back to idle
Concerning the EGR system; I do not have a manual for your year and am not familiar with the particular technology. EGR appears to be controlled (actuated) by the ECM but if the valve allowing exhaust gases into the intake sticks on occasion it could cause a stall. They do get carbon deposits with time. Don't know if yours is new or original. It's easy to forget about it.
does it stall at a stop or lifting off throttle coming to a stop? In garage does it start stall or stall shifting in to gear? anything at all done to car prior to this problem occurring?

Both. But when letting off of gas, it doesn't stall until RPMs are all the way down to idle. In garage it stalls just sitting there idling. But you never know when it's going to stall. It does not do it all the time. It doesn't spit or sputter, it just stops like someone turning a switch off or on and starts right back up.

Thanks!
Which is a typical symptom of the ecm not seeing a vss signal, but you've discarded my advice to check to see if the ecm is seeing a signal and chosen drama.
