Default A/C Refridgerant Pressure

What should the pressure be? My gauge has a green area to 25psi, blue to 45psi, yellow to 65psi, then red higher than that.

According to the Helms, at 90*F, with the system off, it should be at 104psi. What about when it's running? I would think the BLUE area on the gauge would me "cold" ...?

Right now it's running about 50-55psi (in the yellow). When I turn on my car, the A/C will turn on & off 4-5 times before it actually stays on. I know if it does that a lot, the system is low, but obviously mine isn't. Also, i've noticed lately that the belt is making noise when the A/C clutch grabs .. that isn't a sign of the compressor going out is it?!?!?

Glock,

There are several things that can cause the pressure to vary. First open the windows, and dont check it on recircluation. Set fan to high and cooling to 60 degrees. now rev your engine to about 1500-1800 rpms and see what your pressure is. I believe that will get you around the normal operating pressure. By the way, there is no set pressure that you can check like a tire. The pressure will vary a lot depending on the temps.

If you have it connected to the cold line and it's reading 50-55 while running, then you are overfilled. How long after you turned on the a/c did you wait before you checked the pressure. The instructions say to let it run for 3 minutes on Max Cool.

I let it run for a couple minutes .. and the pressure fell to around 50psi. I probably need to take some more out then.

So is the blue area on my gauge probably the correct pressure area?

:yesnod: The blue area is where you want to be. Let it run for a bit longer and check it again. I was in the yellow at first as well but went blue after 3 minutes and was starting to even out at 40 psi in about 4 minutes.

The gauge I have came out of the refill starter kit so 40psi is a rough estimate.
