Best overall Michelin Pilot Sports :yesnod:
Best wet Firestone SZEP
Best Dry BFGoodrich GForce (louder and harsher than Pilots though)
Good values RE730, Kumhos :D
Garbage: Goodyear GSC(Yes, even brand new soft ones also) Of this group, and for that matter of any tire I have tested, worst ride, noise, wet, and dry traction of the bunch. But they last long. :nono:
Well, you probably already found these if you went to tirerack.com, and I noticed a few other people mentioned them in here, but with out a doubt I went from GS-C's to the Khumo ECSTA Supra 712's and trust me it is worth every penny of neary half the cost of the GS-C's, I personally think they look better and after I installed them, I know they handle just as well and have just as good a traction taking off from a dead stop if not actually better. For the 275/40ZR17's are only 110.00 apiece. Actually if you look at the customer survey status between the GS-C and ECSTA's the ECSTA's are rated higher in every catagory execpt handling which is so close I don't think its worth mentioning, the GS-C scored an 8.4 in this catagory and the ECSTA's scored and 8.2, In everything else the ECSTA's are the same or higher in the catagories as the GS-C's, and if I remember correctly you were interested in less noise, well the ECSTA's are quieter to.
Mine is now wearing the BFG KDWS... little difference in tread (additional grooves) but big diff. in price. $625 installed. Quiet and pretty sticky. I haven't had alot to compare them with but I would buy them again.
Do you drive this car in the winter? The KDWS is for Dry, Wet and Snow -- or did you really mean to say KDWs (as in the plural of KDW) :-)
I just sold my KDW tires with just over 1000 miles on them. I was very unimpressed. For all of the flack Firestone got, that SZ50 tire was extremely hard to beat.
Right now, I'm running the Toyo Proxes T1-S, and it's WONDERFUL. Extremely sticky/grippy tire. Treadwear is unknown at this point.
the best, i think are the firestone. i did a lot of research before i bought them, they handlse great and are very quiet. i think i paid 225 for the front and 235 for the back. go to tirerack.com there you can compare the major brands of tires.
I run dunlop sport sp 5000 these are the only tires I've had on because I'v only owned my vette for about 9 months now. For all 4 tires including road hazard they cost me a little over $1000 , they have great traction I've never had the car fish tail around a corner. They spin a little off the line. I had no real problems in the rain. The best 60' time I have on these tires are 1.89
I've mix and matched my way through a couple different sets...the GSC's the '94 came with were...meh...but at the price new tires cost, why rush to replace them on a daily driver? Firehawk SZ50's were nice and MUCH quieter than the GSC's, but I've heard tales of unusual and rapid wear on the rear set. Note: I have not experienced this myself, but then again, I only have them on the front.
Currently I'm running a set of the Potenza RE730's on the rear. In my opinion they're just great. Even my fiance noticed the decreased noise over the stock GSC's, plus the price isn't bad. I've just completed a 1100 mile break-in trip (spent the 4th of July in St. Louis) and don't have any horror stories to report (other than a truck-skipped rock shattering a portion of my windshield...but that's hardly related to the tire's performance). In short...I like them and will probably install RE730's on the front as well when the time comes. Admittedly I'm not a competitive driver by any stretch of the imagination, but they look cool, are a bit cheaper than the OEM tires (or a LOT cheaper if you're switching from Goodyear runflats) and are really quiet on the road.
