Default New ALDL Data Logger

So I just purchased a new Datalogger for my car.. This program is very new and while it may have a couple quirks the Developer it on top of it and working through them. I worked with him over the weekend on an issue I had, but we got it resolved.

The thing I really like about this is it works on Android, I have it on my Nexus 7. What ever Android device you use needs to support USB OTG (On The Go) and then you can use a USB ALDL Cable. There is an option for using a Bluetooth adapter from Red Devil River as well.

Best part is this supports Tuner Pro ADX files for scanning, then you can manually edit Bins with the TunerPro XDF, I joked with the Dev on adding Ostrich support and that is a thought maybe for the future.

I know my ADX works (1990 ZR-1) and is packaged with the program. I know there will be NO IOS Support, but you can get an Android Tablet for reasonable cost these days

Link to the App (ALDLDroid)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...roux.aldldroid

Screens are customizable too, it is just way cool, I was too busy working on getting it to connect and read data that I have not had a chance to mess with the customization abilities

I have an iPhone, so this does not interest me.

What brand and model of cable are you using?

I am an Apple iOS developer, so I am interested in the communications protocol. I've been thinking of writing an iPhone app for ALDL communications. Maybe OBD I or OBD II.

Cliff,

there will be a few people interested in the iPhone app, I am using a USB cable with the FTDI 232 Chip on it.

IF you do decide to make an app, I would suggest modeling the definition file like that of Tunerpro, That is a key feature I like with ALDLDroid, this also allows me to test any ALDL changes on my laptop prior to trying on my phone

Where did your cable? AT&T just gave me a new Tab 7, and I would love to turn it into my command center. Plus my tachometer is acting all screwy.

Well documented problem on 90-92 cars
You can try by replacing the tacho filter

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-g...1990-vert.html

but on those years is usually is a gauge problem

I have Apple products (iPhone4 and iPads) and if you develop this I am interested. I have been looking at ALDL bluetooth from Red Devil for my '90 OBD1 and using my wife's Android product with ALDLdroid app. I would prefer an apple app for my iPad if it can work.

Hit a bump (as an old boss used to say). I couldn't find a WiFi OBD I unit. I bought a Red Devil River Bluetooth OBD I box (the only wireless one I could find).

I can connect to it with my Mac but the iPhone doesn't even see it at all as a discoverable device.

This thing uses a Mega microcontroller board with an Atmel ATmega2560 microcontroller and a custom Bluetooth daughter board. I have an Atmel STK-500 development system so I could talk to it/reprogram it if I wanted to. That sounds way too complex and time consuming…

----------------------------

There's more…

It turns out that the Red Devil River Bluetooth device works in SPP (Serial Port Profile) mode and iOS doesn't allow/support that profile. I'll ask Apple to support it and see what happens. Apple is trying to protect us from Bad People Doing Bad Things...

Or Apple just sucks their own junk to much and want everything proprietary. Looking forward to mounting up my Samsung tab3 as a vehicle information Center and maybe even head unit.

Do you know if this works on $6E yet?

I read through the thread on the GMEFI forum. Scored a new Nexus 7 from a coworker today. I currently have the ADLD USB and am using an Ostrich2 for tuning.
Going to mount the Nexus 7 permanent in the center dash.

I am also an iPhone/iPad guy but I can't pass this up.

If you are using Tunerpro for datalogging your $6E then you can use the SAME ADX file on the ALDLDroid.

That is the great thing, the ALDLDroid was built around using the TunerPro files (so from a file management it is only one file)

I am working on a permanent Nexus 7 install in my 90, it will be my media center as well as my ALDL datalogger.

I have the pieces working, just need warmer weather for the install

You know, Snow White consumed an Apple too at some point, and see where it got her?

I had a long talk with Timm Bacher of Red Devil River tonight. From what we discussed, it appears that his Bluetooth adapter will not work with 1227165 ECMs (1986 - 1989 Corvettes). He's looking for 8192 baud data on pin M of the ALDL connector and those ECMs don't have pin M connected to anything.

He told me he doesn't have an 1227165 ECM to experiment with, but he will get one and look into this. Obviously he wants to support everybody.

I have a Nexus 7 and am completely new to android (iPhone guy). I'm waiting for my otg cable to show up and trying to figure out the modding (rooting, etc).
I am currently running and tuning a '165 via the usb ALDL cable .
Glad I didn't order the Bluetooth adapter.

Yes, it's been weird lately. I was in the middle of composing a reply and it locked up and wouldn't do anything. I had to rewrite the whole thing.

Anyhow, you can delete posts that you have made. Go to the post and click EDiT. Then select "Delete". I vaguely recall that you have to go through a "do you really mean it"? thing, but then the post will disappear into the byte bucket, never to be seen again.

Finally figured how to mod this android stuff (sort of) and have successfully connected to my `165 using $6E with a USB OTG y-cable. Woohoo!
Took a couple of days to figure out how to load custom ROMs. Had to downgrade to 4.2.2 and then loaded Timurs ROM to eventually do a permanent installation and to take the place of the stereo.
Another journey begins.
