Ok so I know every1 hates these chips, even back when I had my 85 trans am I rem evey1 saying they are junk. Still back then I used one and it worked better for me, but that was after I changed too the 165ecm and the car had a 350 and not the 305 that the stock ecm it thought it had. So maybe it just ran better because it was a 350 chip I used.
Anyways now I have a late alum head 86 C4 and still got my new 165 ecm and Thermo Master chip that was for a 87 or 89 trans am/camaro 350, can't rem which yr atm atm. So I want to know what is the diff, between the f-body and c4 chips? I looked it up for both cars and they had diff part numbers. Also read that the Thermo chip just turns the fan on earlier?
Timing for the F-body is way less than a Y car. Even the cast iron headed Corvette's have more timing than an F-body. I would run a 89 ARAP, or ARAR, or equal in an aluminum headed car, and have the fans set for whatever flavor thermostat you like.
Sorry, sometimes I forget not everybody knows this stuff. ARAP is a Broadcast code, or BCC for an 89 Y-car assuming you have an automatic. http://www.chevythunder.com/prom_bcc_1989.htm
APYP could be used for a manual.
