Okay so, I ran it without a thermostat and it doesn't overheat now. I have the fans set to come on at 180*, and at idle it comes on at about 183*. When this happens the temp drops down to 165 ish.
When I take it on the road, it takes a long time to get to 180, and if I go around 30 mph, the temps actually start coming down. It went from 160 to 154 in a few blocks. But if I take the little residential back streets, it goes to 180 and drops to 165. This is with my foot on the gas as the temp rises.
So I'm going to try an OEM thermostat rated at 195 and see if that fixes it, if not I'm going to try a 180 tomorrow.
just a word of advice fans set at 180 and a 195 stat the fans will never stop running and the stat will be working anginst them. reset your fans to come on at a min 210
Okay so I fixed the problem. It was the thermostat. I used an AC Delco 195 thermostat and it didn't overheat. Note to self: do not buy thermostats from the local parts store.
Tomorrow I'm going to put a 180 in it so it runs a little cooler.
And hooked, if I put a 180 thermostat in do you think that 190*F is a good fan on temp?
