I have read a lot into the D 44 and I understand it's not the hp that can blow the rear end but the torque. Does anyone know exactly how far you can push this rear end?? I'm building a 355 motor and want to make sure the rear end is going to be ok. Thanks for the help!!

its about the instantaneous torque applied to the axle, not just the torque from the engine.

That said, you can go pretty far on a D44, usually into the 10s.

Popular topic, and bits of info all over the place. Would be nice to have a sticky with some consolidated, correct info. on it.

I have a 91 zf6 spd donor car that I'd like to have the d44 rebuilt and swapped into my 85 auto. Trying to gather up the info now...
