need help with Vortec engine
I'm considering to purchase a '96 Vortec 350 V8 engine and need to know how I can tell it's a Vortec and not just a regular Chevy V8. I know those engines have roller cams and I think the heads use self aligning rockers. Is there anything else?

Easiest clue is the intake bolt pattern. Only 4 on each side - two up front and two in rear - for a total of 8 instead of 12 like an older non-Vortec V-8. If you want to know exactly what it is, get the engine code stamped in the front of the RH cyl deck and have it crossed over. -Jeff
