I mentioned last week that my rearend got crunchy during a 3rd round race last week. Got around to removing the cover and as I thought, I have broken ring teeth. (Funny coming from a dentist). I had been using the Richmond street gears in my 12 bolt. Time to switch to their Pro series.
I agree too much power for the Richmond gears,Yes time upgrade but what is bullet proof with the h/p you are putting through the gears?.
With previous cars i have found out not even the ford 9 inch solid axle rear will last long with drag slicks and a mountain of horsepower.
You will need a fat wallet and a friend in high places who can help you spend the money to find the right combination that will last.

I'm quite surprised you weren't already running the high nickel gear set. How frequently do you actually pull the cover and check the gears?
Suggestion: Drill & tap the case for a ring gear deflection bolt. .001 or .002 clearance bolt end to ring gear. Or fabricate a brass shoe, slip over the bolt & adjust to continually contact the ring gear.
No suggestions for pinion side deflection or ring gear ride up with your design rear. A 9" with 3rd pinion bearing is required.

I'm going to start with the Pro Gearset now. I've been getting around 700 runs using the street gear which according to my diff guy and Richmond is a lot for any type of gear. This time I only had 400 so it's time for a change. I change the fluid 1/year but don't open the cover.

Good luck.
Thanks Church, I'll talk to my diff guy about that this week.
