84 evaporator
My inlet tube now has hole in it from trying to dig out a jammed orifice. (completely my fault but wow was it jammed, 150 PSI compressor air from the other side wouldn't budge it!)
thanks for any ideas.

Any chance of a repair of the tube?
We used to do evaporator repair kits which would be a tube and orfice. I've not used one in maybe 20 years or more but we've done it. 20 years might be a stretch but it's been a long while.
Take a look at a Four Seasons 16152 and 16149. Either I believe would do it for you.
Here's the 16152 on Amazon:

my fault, trying to dig the orifice out.
thanks for ideas
Rockauto has the same evaporator listed for the 84 as the 85.
I know the tube is at a full 90 degrees on the 85, compared to a more 45-50 degrees on the 84.
Mine is twisted, from a previous owner. With my compressor imploding, I'm going to flush the whole system and change all o rings when I replace the compressor, dryer and orifice tube.
I'd like to change the evaporator too, so this info would be great to know ahead of time.
The evaporator has some protection from the orifice tube screen. (really big stuff anyway) The condenser gets high pressure gas directly from the compressor.
On newer little throw away cars if you bring one in with black death (blown compressor) they want to throw away the condenser. The flush machine and time vs new part is a wash.
So do your best to make sure the condenser is clean.

- the 85 evaporator worked easily in the 84. bend of the tube just moved it a up a bit. no big deal. definitely fixed my leak for 1/4 the price.
- now fighting a high - high side reading, wants to go north of 400psi
- orifice tube jams in to low on evap tube. installs fine, but slides down when system operates. hoping this is what is blocking flow. ordered a evap repair kit for a new evap. hoping that tube is better quality. with 85 evap and tube repair kit, line will end up being pretty tall, but this is no show car. it does need reliable AC. when I first installed everything, pressures were good/cold air. now it strains, jumps straight to high pressure.
- may pop in a new compressor, exp tank at the same time and change all orings and both Schrader valves. again, last year installed both new when switching to 134. then use air to blow out all lines and evap/condenser (both pretty new - just verify its clear) this system has never been reliable, though once in a while I can make it cold.
they part I hate? 50 bucks to service and verify. at least I'm getting my money out of the ac vacuum pump.
