Ok, I just brought my wife's new baby home. Her first corvette 1992 red coupe. 37 K miles one owner and looks like he babied her and garage kept. Now if I have read right keyless entry started showing up in the 1993 models, so I'm guessing I would do best since I'm adding an after market alarm system and start it might as well have keyless entry. So with out stirring up too much controversy are there any preferred alarm systems out there that fit the bill and have some sort of interior detection for when we have it out parked with the top off?
I KNOW you are going to do what you want. But I work on Corvettes for a living. And I can tell you that regardless of what system you choose to install for whatever reason. I have come across and had to repair SO MANY Corvettes that have had '****-poor' installation of an alarm system/remote start installed that has failed and complicated the diagnostics of a 'NO START' issue.
You have to be careful on the size of the control module and where 'they' plan on putting it. I have seen them damage other wiring that causes for more problems than you can imagine due to the amount of free space under the steering column is quite limited.
As for a sensor that can detect a hand going into the car with the top out...I do not know of any.
I will write this...that I KNOW these Corvettes and how to remove parts and know where the wiring is going and how to CORRECTLY wire Corvette. BUT I can almost bet that the installation shop does not.....and that is where the problem lies.
Best of luck in your search...in both a system and a shop who cares to not desecrate your wife's Corvette.
If I find the right system I will probably use the Corvette dealer where I got it. The have been dealing with Corvettes exclusively for 40 yrs and have a GM certified mechanic on the property. They don't sell the systems but said they would install it properly if I supplied it. They are looking into a couple of systems for me but I thought I'd check out here too.
I install car audio, alarms, and remote starts fora living. I wouldn't do any product other than a Viper/Directed Electronics unit. Yes you can get a proximity sensor, you do however need to find a place where this can go, almost fully exposed http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...cted-508D.html
I would strongly recommend going with a shop that touts/pimps out their MECP status.
Biggest things to look for are sloppy wiring and t taps/scotch locks. If a shop uses t taps (read: virtually every tint place ever), move along. Soldered connections or bust.
