Default Coolant Temp 95 LT1

I have just bought my first vette a 95 LT1 auto. The coolant temp seems to have a very broad range. At idle it can be as high as 225F is this normal or is there something that I should look to change out, ie Fan relay.

Thanks for your help

There are a ton of threads that address this very issue. 225' is not out of the ordinary, but if it bothers you there are several things that can be done.
1. Get a lower temp T-stat.
2. Turn your fans on earler.
3. Remove, and clean the radiator. PITA

There are kits out there that have a manual fan switch on that you can get fairly cheaply.

Good luck.

What temp does it reach with the A/C on? Mine will stay at 205' in 95" temp standing in traffic. Other than that it runs about 197', or slightly higher, freeway & around town if traffic is moving.

Your temps are normal, GM built them to run hot to pass emissions.
Just make sure the front of your radiator is clean, theres a lot of dirt/road debris in there.

If you dont like it then there are things you can do to keep it down.

My '95 gets to 230F if stopped in traffic very long on these hot dog days of summer. Once moving she'll come down. If I have open air in front, no traffic ahead to disrupt the air then cruising down the highway I see between 194 - 200. Putzing around town stop and go she averages 200 - 215. A 160 thermostat in combo with fan switch or ECM programming to activate the fans earlier will help a lot. Normally the ECM will turn the radiator fans on at 230F I think. If you turn the air conditioning on that will also activate the fans, so the air cond is like a fan switch sort of.

I rec'd a Hypertech Powerstat 160F thermostat from Speed Demon Motorsports yesterday, which I'll put in this weekend or tomorrow evening most likely. Already have Hypertech programmer III to setup my fans.

Thanks for all the help with this. i am going to try some of the tips, it is good to know that the temps are pretty normal. I would like to see them come down just a bit.
