Default Engine Stalling

Lets see if I can explain this.

If I drive my 1984 corvette around for more than 20 min ( basically long enough for the motor to heat up) then turn it off. When I start it back up and drive, it stalls on me. For instance, I drove 30 min and drove into a gas station to get gas. When I went to drive off, it died on me. luckily I was close to home. I can immidiately start it back up but it usually stalls. Its usually at low speeds also. Now If I let it sit there for a couple hours and let it completely cool down, it will run fine but the samething will happen. At first I thought it was the 30 year old fuel pump but now I am second guessing myself. What would cause this? I just bought this car a couple months ago so Havent dove into the motor yet.

Check the post "hot weather fail". It sounds as if we suffer from the same symptoms. I have an '88, and have not yet found out the cause. Today I replaced the fuel pump relay. If that doesn't do it, in the shop it will go.

FYI - I had a 91 Trans Am that would do the same thing. It also would sometimes just shut off at highway speeds but not always. After it sat and cooled down it would fire right up first try. Ended up being a hairline crack in the distributor module.

Hot weather fail ended up being the leads bringing power into the ICM. The insulator encasing the connection was separating, allowing overheating. Thanks to Jim at GM Toys, Portrland Or.
