Front bumper cover
The other day during a cold rainstorm on a 90*+ day my windows fogged so badly I overshot my driveway and smacked the phone pole at the corner. Grrrr, what an idiot right? Anyway I took the cover off to straighten the cracked backer plate and get the charcoal canister back into about where it should sit to allow my headlight to rotate and open. I fixed all of that but when I put the cover back on the big difference in the panel gap didnt get corrected. I see in the FSM where there are shims behind the crash pad backer plate and I assume they are for adjusting the bumper cover. If there are several on each side I figure I can take a few out of the wide side and add them to the narrow side to correct the panel gap. I guess my question is am I right in thinking the moving of these shims will correct the gap or is there something else I need to adjust? Or am I looking at replacing parts?

I had to replace my front bumper cover for damage. You're correct in assuming that removing shims will pull the facia cover tighter to the hood for proper clearance. It's a trial and error procedure.
I used masking tape to hold the shim pack together. ( they keep wanting to fall out ) I was lucky as it only took me 2 tries to get the clearance pretty much perfect. (beginners luck)
