Less than 200 miles on this. I swear the car only had a slight miss.

No but the coil is reeaalllly old. Maybe putting out too much voltage for some reason ??

..... Defective carbon button ... I have had a few MSD caps do the same to me ... turned 'em bright orange inside ... the last one took less than 30 minutes running time to look like yours ... MSD tech told me that I wasn't installing the cap correctly ...

... I now buy Accel caps and rotors for my MSD distributor ........

Possible but last week I noticed a slight miss. Took off the cap and it was not this bad but it was burnt. Had 50k+ miles on it so I blamed the miles. Now I am confused.

Is there a way to bench test the coil. Going to GOOGLE now.

GOOGLE said secondary side of coil should be under 30k ohms. I got 78k. Hmmmm.

Any cap with aluminum contacts is a cheap cap. Get a good one. Your coil is fine.

Sanded the secondary output clean. Now reading 8k. The cap is the only one they had in stock. I prefer brass also. Now the coil is fine. Will replace the cap and rotor this again week. for the record, old cap had brass contacts. Will try a different parts house.

The same thing has happened to one of my caps, replaced it and has been fine since. Like anything they do not last.

Thats why I know its not the cap. Im sure the coil will fix the problem.

40k+ with no real problems.

Picked up a cap with brass terminals today and got it together and running.. Rainig big time and I dont want to put the top on till Labor day so it will be a while before I have results.
I went about 5 years without taking the top off. Took it off June 1 and secided to go all summer. Just some Jackdidleu crazyness.
