Default 84 performance chip

Was thinking about putting the thermo master chip stage 2 from corvette central so i can run my engine cooler any suggestions? I already done the cold air mod to it and hi flow air filter, also already have magnaflow cat back exhaust and mild shift kit in transmission due to prior owner

pretty much think it's a unversal opinion on this forum. that there's no value in them...I had a hypercrap chip..(still have it if you want it} but noticed no differeence in power....it's much easier to install manual switches for your fan or fans....a couple of bucks at best....I did have mine come on early when I had my chip re tuned, but I still have and use the manual switches. with a lower t stat....you"ll have no problem....

You don't need a chip, to "allow" you to run a 160 stat. You can go ahead and run what ever stat you want, w/the stock chip.

CFI-EFI and others have tried various aftermarket chips that went slower (documented) with them...went back to stock and sped back up. Optimize your own fuel pressure, base timing and you'll be way ahead of anything a chip could possibly do for you on an '84.

I tried that stuff 15 years ago in my '93 LT1 Z28, although it was a bit different from your L98m I didnt get anything out of them. Except a little less comfort from the heater on really cold mornings!

There are some good write-ups on this forum (I think maybe by vader86) that go thru where to get started on L98 performance.

One of my friends did that stuff with the underdrive pulley & even then there wasn't a real difference.

First, lets clarify. A 1984 is a L83 not L98
Second, Aftermarket chips are junk... I've already proven that once on a dyno.
Third- Save your money on the underdrive pulley set as well. Been there done that... and Not Impressed.

whats next?...lol

about the fan. Not ECM controlled in '84.

The problem w/underdrive pulleys isn't that they don't work....they do provide a slight increase in power and efficiency. The problem is the cost, for that power. For the money you can get a LOT more power elsewhere. Like exhaust, rockers, cam, ported intake.... for starters.

To the best of my knowledge the 84 ecm has never been hacked for reprogramming and would require an adapter to convert to a newer ecm? Adapter would be the Racetronix RHCA-001.
