Need advice on HEI replacement unit. ...LOOK inside...
While replacing my distributor cap yesterday, I noticed that my HEI wires are brittle and falling apart. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good aftermarket HEI unit (complete w/ wires)?
I would prefer a high performance unit to work in conjunction with the Hypertech high voltage cap that I just installed. This is for my 87 w/383. Thanks!!

The dealer carries that for less than $20 I believe (can't remember exact price from when I bought mine).
No need to remove the distributor.

That sounds about right. I think I have a spare (new OEM) one of those in my parts box (different part for my 90 from your 87 though I think). Check with your GM parts source for this one.

Any auto store should have it. They call it an ignition suppressor/capacitor and cost <$10. The wires and plug are part of it. You may want to replace the other set of wires that go from the ignition module to the computer. GM #1986260.
