Default ECM swap '93

Yesterday I thought I would swap out the ecm that came with my used engine with my original that I continued to use with the newer engine. After doing so the car would not start. It did not set any codes, only that a passive key light seemed to come on. I reinstalled my original ecm and it started right up and did not throw any codes. I thought passive key info was in the ccm not the ecm. I guess the other thing I could check would be to swap out the memcal to see if that is what caused the problem. The ecm's are both '93's and both cars were six speeds and mammals are BAFL. Is the key resistance stored in the ecm as well as the ccm to create a no star issue if they were different? Can it be corrected?

Even though a PCM came with your engine does not mean that is was a good PCM. And if your current PCM is working...why mess with it. Leave well enough alone.

CCM is what makes the engine start after identifying the chip value for the ignition key.

Did you open the ECM and confirm there was a PROM in it? You didn't mention anything regarding the PROM. Key resistance is stored in the CCM.

Yes memcals are the same and was installed. The ecm that came with the newer engine looks a little better than the old one and wanted to see if it was working. I should try just swapping the memcal to see if it is that or the ecm itself.

That is like judging a 'book by its cover'...which does NOT apply here.

Hope it all works out...at least you have it running.
