i am planning a new engine for my 1990 corvette 6 speed.
Here is what i have come up with.
377 short block, already have 4340 crank H-Beam Rods and Ross forged pistons,GM block ( old race motor)
AFR 195 2.02/1.60 street heads
Holley EFI HP system
Comp Cams XR28R Solid Roller: .570 In/.576 Ex, 280/286, 106 ICL and 110 LSA.
Intake:converted LT1 intake or a single plane.
Any Comments? my goal for this would be around 500 HP @6500 my main concern is getting to to work correctly with EFI but i believe the Holley systems can handle it.
Does anyone have experience with the Holley sytems on bigger cam motors?
Is the duration of the cam, 280/286 @ .050 or the advertised duration? I would think if you are going with a solid roller cam, your lift would be way over .600. I don't know what your application is, but a solid roller on the street doesn't make sense to me for an everyday driver. Not only the maintainence aspect but a solid roller is tough on valvetrains and things will wear quicker. If this is a race car, different story. I'm running low 10s with a conservative hydraulic roller cam.
the duration is advertised.
Yea i have been going back and forth on solid/hydraulic cam, my thought was that with a solid you could run a more aggressive ramp rate then with hydraulic. but if i can reach my goal with a hydraulic then it would be the better choice. there is a hydraulic cam close to the one listed only difference is the LSA is 113 not 110.
This car is somewhere in the middle it is a street car but not a everyday driver, but i do not want to end up with a car that is so horrible on the street it will never be driven.
Your better off with a hyd roller in your combo. The small heads are not going make power where you would need a mech roller.
I have custom ground a number of hyd rollers from Mike Jones (Jones Cams) and all have made more HP than you would like to. I would be glad to spec out something that would easily make 500HP and still be very driveable in your 377.
A good EFI single plane intake like the World Motown or Edelbrockk Victor EFI would be the best intake for it IMO but a converted LTX or Mini ram would also work.
I am not familiar with the Holley ECU so, sorry but I have no idea if will handle it or not.

Thats a tame and very driveable (will still sound rumpity) solid for 2 a 383;good choice
248/254 something like that. for a "toy" 383 it works pretty well.
There are HR that can do the job but nothing runs like a solid...or sounds
This cam put down over 460RWHP in a 93 Corvette Vert, thru an unlocked 4L60 auto with a 3000 stall. LT4 based 385 cubic inch 11.3 compression with AFR 210 street ports. Car went 11.17@125MPH first time out.
I have a slightly bigger cam in my 92 6spd and the car makes over 480RWHP and has been 11.0s@128MPH.
Both cars are factory computer, 100% street driven and raced on MT DOT drag radials. Heck the 93 has the stock cat back exhaust still.

Rkless runs a lot quicker than me, but I've always run more conservative cams on the street. When my car had a 383 and was a street strip car, I ran a Crane HR 222 230 with about .600 lift and 1.6 intake, 1.5 exhaust. Never dynoed, but the car ran 11 teens in the quarter. Have to dig up time slips to see what the mph was, but it wasn't as fast as Wills. The car was very steetable and was used as a deaily driver. 700r4 with a lockup converter, .373 gears.
