Water pump, harmonic damper, and then the opti. You're right; that is pretty easy. Maybe an hour?

Cleaned & dried the opti harness. No result. Removed water pump and unbolted harmonic damper but cannot get it off the shaft. Soaked it good in PB Blaster to no avail.

So, next question. . . How to get the pulley off? Bearing puller?

What opti did you end up getting? Just curious, I think I'll be replacing mine soon.

NAPA. At the time I was living in Telluride, Colorado....AKA, The middle of no F'ing where.

I had a trip coming and mail order wasn't going to do it. Only distributor I could find on the "western slope" as it's called, was a NAPA in Grand Junction. Grabbed it, installed it, drove to 'Vegas the next morning. Whew!

I was worried; have I gotten the "right" one? All the posts you see on here; MSD rules/sucks. Petris rules/sucks. AC Delco, rules/sucks, and on, and on. Mines gone 2-1/2 years now, and about 20k miles, hasn't missed a beat on the street or track, so I think I did O.K.

EDIT. Whoops...didn't look and thought you were the OP, asking me. Sorry.

I ordered the ProComp from SacCityCorvette for $160, or so. They were all backordered, but they had an AIP and said it was equivalent. I said, "okay." They were very good to deal with. Calls and e-mails were prompt and courteous.

Purchased a fuel pressure tester today to test the opti as was suggested.

Now that you've got the opti out, you can simply test it like I did in the video that I posted. If spinning it w/it hooked up provokes fuel pump, AIR pump, etc, then that is pretty strong evidence that it's working. If nothing, then it's dead.

Removed opti and tested as suggested with harness wire attached, fuel pressure tester attached, coil wire off and near ground, manually spun opti with ignition on.

Fuel pressure stayed at 42 psi, AIR pump did not run, no spark from coil wire.

It appears my opti is dead.

New opti arrives tomorrow. Reassembly the day after.

Here's hoping for a great September drive on Saturday.

You can pull the cap on the opti and clean it out

my cap was all eroded when I looked

at least you'd have a spare

I plan to give the old cap a good going-over. The bearings seemed quiet and smooth when I spun it. It may very well be worth saving as a spare.

If the opti isn't triggering any activity in the ECM, no amount of cap cleaning is going to help it.

So, in may anxiousness about removing a stubborn HB, I didn't note it's position when I removed it. Ugh. Is this going to be a problem reinstalling? Does the arrow on the pulley align with TDC?

No, but if you clean the optics, it could start working again.

Did you remove the mount as well as the balancer?
It's two pieces.

No. I only removed the pulley. The 3-spoke bracket is still on the crank.
