I have an 86 pace car it seems to have excessive slop when going from park to drive or reverse also reverse to drive and vice versa. I am told it could be loose c channel bolts or u joints they seem ok , can someone pleae tell me where this C channel is and what it looks like so i can check its bolts tks. also I have a vibration in second gear only when it downshifts sometimes

You don't mention miles but with your mentioned "slop" it's very unlikely it's C-beam bolts. I'd think it's more likely that you're going to find u-joint problems, maybe excessive pinion/ring gear back lash. There's four bolts that connect the C-beam to the rear of the transmission (2) and to the front of the differential (2), they will be very obvious when you check the drive-line again. If it is indeed the C-beam bolts there are possibly other issues as the loose bolts have likely "elongated" the holes in both the beam, the transmission extension and the differential housing.
I think you're just seeing the normal slop in a 700r4 trans, especially the earlier ones without the auxiliary valve body (changed in late 1987).
i agree, if you feel a bang from P to R or from P to D and the car makes a little jump forward from P to D,this is an old lack of the early TH700r4. When you put the gear selector in D, inside valve body, the pressure build up from the trans oil pump is cushioned by the accumulator pistons. This piston has a spring (stiffness # of this spring affects accumulator "absorbing" power). Old accumulator seals,or a worn out accumulator spring or worn out accumulator bore/pin usually act this way.As told from 87 the new auxiliary valve body includes a new accumulator setup solving this issue.
