1992 Corvette starting problems
I bought this Corvette in April. Had no starting problems until about a month ago. It would start ok but when I turned it off and then tried to restart it...nothing. It wouldn't crank, no clicking sounds, just nothing. Tried to charge battery, again, nothing. Bought a new battery, it started right up, but after turning it off and trying to restart it, nothing again. Put a battery tender on it and let it charge for a few days. Started it this morning, it fired right up, volts read 15.0. As it was idling, I heard a high-pitched whine that lasted a few seconds. A couple of minutes later I shut it off, then tried to restart it, the same thing happened again...nothing happened when I turned the key, volts this time read 12.2. Does anyone have any solutions for my problem?

Next time the problem happens and the key is turned to on, look at the security light on the left of dash. If it is on steady, VATS has activated and it will takes 3 or so minutes to reset after the key is removed. It is part of the anti theft on the car. If the light was lit, clean the contacts on the key pellet on the key.
If the security light was not lit, check the battery connections and or re-tighten them. Possibility the solenoid on the starter is starting to go bad.

I had the anti theft system for several years. It would not start although all the speedometer and everything else would cycle but not start. You would have to take the key out and wait no less than 3 complete minutes. If you try before 3 minutes it will go on sleep mode for 30 minutes again. I finally replaced the ECU and no problems since. Before that I replaced the theft deterrent relay, the ingnition switch and nothing worked until I replaced the ECU
