Very nice setup! Interesting 3 link, I had not considered that direction previously. I'm putting mine back together and even though I have modded out the IRS with all Banski racing parts, coil overs and new spicers all around, I've been contemplating what would happen if something like a half shaft or sub she broke at triple digit speeds. Not a very attractive image and a bit unnerving to say the least.
I have an 8.8 solid axle out of a fox body mustang sitting in the garage and had considered building a cross member similar to your 3 links and using the angled upper control arm mounts to setup a system like the mustang uses. That way you eliminate the need for a wishbone or panhard centering bar. Plus I think it would be very difficult for any sanctioning body to not allow it since it's the same stock setup on a mustang.
I know an 8.8 is a stout piece when upgraded with C-clip eliminators and some 31 spline or larger axles and parts are readily available and won't break the bank.
I certainly agree, once your making some serious power, the stock suspension and rear end become a dangerous situation. My old setup was 940rwhp/860rwtq from a custom turbo setup I did, the new setup is twins and should be easily north of 1k rwhp... Think like the others and you have said, it is probably time to take the plunge!
Hey will how did you have your 350 setup in your car when it was IRS? Did you use the normal spacer to adapt the c4 tailhousing to a long tail 350 or did you build something? I'm asking bc I'm working on a turbo build and getting pieces from skidwnit to do a 4 link with his system and I was gonna try and use a 350 and see how it holds up to a couple of snails before I try going glide or 400 and getting more expensive and complicated.
Yes, I had the TH350 under my car with the IRS. I had a TH350 with the 9" long output shaft, spacer block and 700R tail housing to connect to the C Beam.
FYI there are (3) different TH350 output lengths. 6" short shaft, 9" intermediate shaft and 12" long shaft.
Built right a TH350 is a good trans. I went 5.70's@126MPH in the 1/8th and 8.70's at 155MPH in the 1/4 mile with mine on the stock IRS. Never hurt the TH350 but I converted the car to a Powerglide with the new 3 link solid axel suspension to get a better Starting Line Ratio (SLR) to make the most of the power I have now.

You wouldn't happen to know which spacer you used to sandwiche behind the trans and between the tailhousing do you?
lc the 8.8 isnt all that bad. not the best but will take more than most think if built right
Had a 5.0 with a hard running 460 on the bottle ran it for a long time never broke it but had a mild converter too.

Actually with good gears, spool, c clip elims, axles and a brace an 8.8 is every bit as strong as a 12 bolt with good parts
