1984 with 4+3 The clutch won't completely disengage almost impossible to shift gears but doesn't completely engage till the top of the peddle like normal if it had made any noise I'd say it was the throw out bearing but no noise any Ideas?
It is not the master cylinder or the slave cylinder.
Are you trying to shift it while the engine is running???? IF SO...turn off the engine. If it is in gear....press on the clutch pedal and while you or someone is pushing on the car....see if the car will begin to roll easily. Then notice where the pedal is when the car begins to roll.
IF the car will NOT roll when you do this...then you either have pressure issue in the clutch hydraulic system...or something else going on at or around the clutch. IF it did roll..and you get it out of gear. I would BET that if you crank the car....the shifter WILL NOW go into gear...but if you turn off the engine...it will.
What you have is the input shaft of the transmission is stuck to the pilot bushing...thus allowing the input shaft to ALWAYS turn and NOT STOP turning so you can get it in gear....which is why it works with the engine NOT running...but won't work with the engine running....OR...you clutch disc is stuck to the surface and will not dis-engage...which still requires the clutch to be inspected.
Thanks DUB was kind of where my thoughts were going got it up on jacks exhaust removed going to try and get the tranny out tonight and see what's going on.
No I didn't because I was pretty sure I needed to look at the clutch and sure enough 2 fingers on the pressure plate were cracked so the clutck plate was pulling away unevenly and not releasing replaced the clutch and I'm rebuilding the tran and overdrive should be back together soon.
