The car started to stumble on occasion and then it acted like it was losing power and then it died (luckily) in front of my house. waited about 30 minutes and it started. Put it in the garage and ran the codes while I was not running it it gave me history codes 16,26,27,and 28. Replaced the OPTI last year so I hope it is not that. Can the coil or ICM throw a similar code? It is a 6 speed and stock. New plugs , wires and MAP as well. Fuel pump is charging up the rails fine too. Ideas< Thanks Forum!

The opti can go at any time. I've been thru quite a few on my 93. Your symptoms are exactly like the opti going out. It's gotten to where my car starts acting like yours, I replace the opti

What kind of opti did you use? I put in an OEM OPTI. Has anyone ever rebuilt an OPTI. The OEM I had in there still worked but I had everything apart so I did it all at once so I would not have to go back in there for a while. It looks like an easy cap and rotor replacement.

That is exactly what I am thinking too. I have had plenty of Chevys and that is what it feels like. When the car is cold it feels like it's running with good power and then it gets up to temp and it becomes intermittent. This time the difference is it actually died, cooled down and restarted. Not sure that an OPTI would let it restart if it had truly failed. Then again I have been wrong before! Bought a coil to throw at it since they are cheap and easy. If I am wrong on that count at least I have a fresh coil in it to go with a new OPTI! Haha!

I am hoping it's not for the sake of having to go through all of that again. The original was still working when it took it out so it seems odd that the same type that lasted since 1992 would only last a year! I have my fingers crossed since it threw the H16 code. Speaking of which... anyone know how to truly get history codes out. The battery disconnect does not work and neither does the code clearing process through the dash. They have to be stored somewhere that I am not finding.

I will let you know for sure. If you find a way to rid the codes let me know. It would be nice if the codes could be gone with such a simple solution.

Put the new coil today and it ran like a champ for about 15minutes in the garage and died. makes me wonder if the ICM heats up and fails? I decided to order anew ICM and OPTI. If I am going to throw parts at it I might as well cover the bases!

Go Petris for the opti IMO.

I'd check plug wires and put some dielectric grease on them especially those plugged into the opti . Check ground wire and apply dielectric on coil and icm where it bolts to head and finally the icm for the thermo grease on it. When engine is cold may run ok and gets rough and stall when the icm has gone bad. If you replaced the opti recently with a good quality one, I would think it would be ok unless it was in a lot of moisture, the reason for most failures. Have you been driving it regularly or just getting it out for the summer?
