I had one installed yesterday and it seems to shift a little better, but I'm not sure if it really did anything. Anyone have any experiences with this brand?
Re: Has anyone installed a Performance Resource chip? (VetteWave)
I know my fiancee had one in her 87 and it actually slowed it down. Not to mention it spark knocked like crazy. When we called them and asked them wth? they said that was normal......So needless to say there is a $300 paperweight somewhere in her room. Has been sitting there for 4-5 years now. :D :D
Re: Has anyone installed a Performance Resource chip? (VetteWave)
Chips from these damn companies do nothing on a stock motor, and if the motor isnt stock then you need a CUSTOM chip for the cam. All they do is add a crapload of timing.
Never buy one of these chips, unless you cant find anyone to burn one for you, and you feel that you must have your fans turned on earlier.
Re: Has anyone installed a Performance Resource chip? (vader86)
I ran a perf choice chpi in my back 7years ago stock '85 vette.
The car had 42K miles and was perfectly tuned. I only got little knock during the shift for a fraction of a second.
Shifting was better and car DID feel faster.
I have no numbers from back then, but Perf. Resources was the Chip shootout winner from ALL the manufacturers. Forgot which magazine it was
Chevy performance or Hot Rod Magazine I think between '89-'93.
Re: Has anyone installed a Performance Resource chip? (Vic'89)
I'm not sure about specifics, but shifting occurred at higher points with the chip and lockup didn't occur at the dreaded 25mph, but just around 40mph.
That by itself was worth the $260 I paid for it back 7 years ago.. :D

And this I would have to disagree with! I just installed an Ed Wright FastChip in my 93 and it is WILD! I have a totally stock motor internally, and just a few bolt ons as seen in my sig. It has enhanced EVERY facet of driving, from take off, to throttle response, to high end! I'm sorry, but your blanket statement is FALSE!!!!!!! I understand they work differently for everybody, but I would spend $160 every day on my car if I got results like that! Just because you had a bad time with one or whatever, don't shoot the idea down! I'm not saying you will get the same results, but I did, so, "Chips from these damn companies do nothing on a stock motor" as you say, is WRONG!!!!!!!!! I see you have quite a few posts and you're a veteran here, but I'm sorry, you're wrong. I'm sure I'll get hit by somebody now about this, but I have to set the record straight! :seeya

Ed is not like the rest of these companies, he actually does do good work, and i recommend him for people who must have a chip, although any chip wont do much on a stock motor. If you have bolt-ons, the advanced timing may help.

 Well all I have is The Claw and a 160 degree stat, I classify myself as just about stock. No throttle body, TB bypass, adjustable this or that, or internals, just those two things. The chip DID work, VERY MUCH SO in fact. I'm also not saying it'll work for everybody with a 99.9% sock motor, but it worked for me! :yesnod: Oh yes it did! Thanks for the good words about Ed Wright, makes me feel like my chip is worth something now.........
