I am trying to replace the broken guide and am needing to remove the window nut. I can't find a suitable tool at any of the regular places but thought I saw someone post one from harbor freight or northern tool.
Anyone have suggestions for getting the nut off or sourcing the tool needed?
Went digging through boxes of old junk I've accumulated over the years and found this. It worked! FYI, window guide bolt had blue Loctite on it. No wonder it was so stubborn. My wife calls me a hoarder..... BTW, M16A1 was in service from 1967 to 1983
There is a spanner socket that is specifically made for this:
interesting - ??? - have you actually used this socket? seems to me, there wouldn't be enough clearance or access, since you have to come in from the opposite or back side. you wouldn't happen to have the snap-on number for the socket - looks like "s98 - something."

I made my own. Get a flat piece of steel or aluminum about an 1" or so wide by 6-8 inches long. tap two holes in the end with 10-32 threads with the correct distance between the holes. (forgot the exact dimension). Thread in your 10-32 x 1/4 to 1/2" long bolts. Cheap and easy. Sure that Snap on tool or specifically designed tool would be better but hey when your trying to get the job done some times you need to call upon Macgyver .
