Default Targa top problems

I recently bought a very nice 1987 corvette coupe, the only problem i really have is the targa top bangs and squels on every bump, drives me crazy ,has anyone come up with any easy solutions . i know its in the targa top, no noise when its out and if i take my hand and push up hard when driving the noises get better, any help appreciated.

Do you know how old the weather strip is? C4 has a solid and heavy targa top and bolted on at 4 points. There use to be self-adhesive pads sold for early C4's for noise control that were attached on the targa top. I have some of the pads.

Another thing to check is if the brackets on the windshield frame are loose. On my 94 it made a ton of noise that I just chocked up to being normal based on what I'd read online. Then one day taking the targa off I realized that the windshield mount was loose on the passenger side. I took off the plastic trim and tightened down the bracket and it quieted it right down.

And then of course the obvious, make sure the 4 bolts that hold the top itself on are tight too.

Are you sure you have the targa tightened down enough? Mine will do that when it's not tight enough.

I found that the plates on the forward mounts on my acrylic top would not stay tight and got the same thing over bumps. Once I got them adjusted properly I pulled one screw out at a time and used the blue lock-tight on each screw and the rattling is gone.

Don't use the red as it requires heat to release if you ever need to remove the screws or loosen again to adjust.
