True, Dino, but the $115 goes towards other projects I con't want to do myself, like overhauling the cluster, or buying some exotic hardwood to make my girl a nice jewelry box, things like that. And I only found them for $80 apiece, which is more than they are worth. *shrug*

MrReno, thanks for the write up and the other thread. They look really good. I have a friend who is reupholstering my sailboat this winter and I never even thought of asking him to do the visors. I bet he could do that stitching in his sleep.

That's why I love this forum!

I finally created a post in the C5 section on how to rebuild the C5 sunvisors with vanity mirrors. I don't know if they are much different than the C4 with mirrors but it does provide the details for rebuilding the C5 visors. Here's a link.

My '95 had floppy ears; in fact, when i got the car they were folded back behind the visors. The local upholstery man cut off the ears, sewed up and glued the fabric for about $50, iirc. Looks good & works fine with the top down.

I got sick of the floppy ears on mine, and ordered a set of reproduction visors from one of the major vendors. They were back-ordered, and I had to wait a very long time for them to arrive. After I installed them, I realized just how poor the quality was -- numerous faults -- and returned them for a refund.

In frustration, I decided to see what I could do with the old ones. I cut the stitching off at the end of each one, removed the broken cardboard, cut the cloth covers down to where I had about 3/4-inch extending beyond what was left of the cardboard, tucked the cloth between the cardboard layers, and hand-stitched them back up with black thread.

First incision:

Surgical removal of floppy ear:

A peek at the inside of what's left:

Squeeze to separate the two layers of cardboard:

Edge of remaining cardboard:

Scissor-cut new radius at corner (should have cut a larger radius):

Top layer of cloth tucked in between two layers of cardboard:

Clamps holding things together while I'm stitching it back up:

First one finished, second one waiting to be done:

It's not perfect, but it looks SO much better than it did, and I'm okay with it for a while, at least. It wasn't difficult, just required some time and patience.

Live well,

SJW
