Default 84 hood spring adjustment...

After replacing the cable the hood releases but doesnt pop up.. I had a helper pull the cable while I watched and both the latches clear to hole.. Should I just get new springs and get it all done at one time or do you think adjusting them will make it pop??

Thank you

Craig

I would try ajusting them or streaching them first.

Adjust them first, I have had to take them off and hold the large nut in a vice before to break them lose, plus less chance of marring the hood. Be sure to mark the 3 bolts and plate that hold the plate so you can replace them in the same location.

Your problem may be so simple as just needing a good lube job on the hood pins. It could also be not so simple as needing an adjustment of the alignment of the hood pins to the latches.

The hood pins need to be centered in the latches, and the release cables need to pull the latches open all the way! Try a good lube job first, including grease on the levers on the bottom of the latches, then check out this Very complex and controversial post:

I combined these two and applied enough grease to the striker plate on the latch, then lowered the hood to have the pins 'mark' where they hit. A few iterations in adjustment and mine pops up nicely.

There are also helper gas cylinders up near the radiator.

Thanks fellas!!

All the parts are clean and lubed..

I read the complex and controversial post before I posted my request..

I went out and looked and fiddled some today.. the springs seem fairly weak..I can compress them easily..

I will try the masking tape centering trick next..

@fpnmf Realized it has been a few years since you posted this, though can you let me know what you ended up doing with your hood springs? Still having the issue? I am dealing with this very issue.
Thanks

@CorvetteRules. Thanks. Really wish people that post an issue would let everyone know what their final results/solution was. See that quite a bit. I ordered a new set of springs. Hope that does the trick.
