Ran 4+3 with kick down disabled for years. Worked well. OD cable is tie wrapped and on firewall. I engage with the dash lever as needed.
Converted from TBI to port fuel(1984 CF) this summer. Day one of conversion OD does not engage. No light engages on dash for OD.
I am using EBL/LT4.bin with all OD/TCC changes in bin done upon suggestion of EBL ECU MFG.
My GM certified mechanic jumpered relay and powered the OD and it works fine. Found OD unit low on fluid and refilled.
I ran car for a month with no OD available. Now I find OD engages with hard acceleration and when I let up throttle it leaves OD. Weird? Only in 2nd and 3rd gear.
That's not a kick down cable. It adjusts the pressure in the OD unit based on throttle position. When was the fluid and filter last changed? They are very sensitive to poor maintenance which is recommended every 10K. If it was my car, I'd change the fluid and filter, reconnect the throttle cable and hope it works.
It may be easiest to do the common mod and bypass the ECM's switching it on/off, in favor of just the O/D switch.
Either disconnect the tan / blk wire to the ECM and run it to ground through a new switch
or wire the 1st gear switch on the trans side cover direct to the O/d solenoid and use the existing O/d switch to ground the tan / blk.
