So I have developed an odd problem with my 84 auto. after the car warms up (roughly around 91 to 92 celcius ) the car starts to stuble and will surge when idling. when this occurs I can't rev past 2900 rpm and it wants to sit around 1700 rpm under load. will drop to 500rpm at a light or stop sign. If i gun it the moment it hits 2900rpm the rpm will drop like a rock and nearly stall out. It even stalled out today taking a corner at low speeds (15km/h). The spark plugs are new and the wires are fine. the fuel pump and assembly is brand new and the issue is only showed up in the past month. runs rough when this occurs. Runs fine when it cools down.
I'm thinking maybe EGR/PVC valve although I'm not a mechanic by trade (but like to think I am fairly competant at automotive maintenance).
Any idea what the problem could be? what likelyhood is it the ECM/PROM finally going south? is there any way to check verify what could be causing these symptoms?
any help would be appreciated as my vette is my daily driver (while i wait for my fuel pump for my camaro to arrive - gave up the ghost driving back home). This problem is difficult to deal with while getting to school and work.
I would not rule out the coil, throw a timing light on it get it flashing run it up through the problem if light cuts out give the Distributor a good look.
also take the air cleaner top off make sure the injectors are not cutting out,
try to disconekt the tube from the tb to the egr solionid !! and block the tb !! try to go for a ride !!!! next pull the egr valve and give it some bumps with a hammer !!and clean it !! and yes coolant temp sensor !!
