Hello to all,
I discovered my harmonic balancer to be flopping around on my 1986 stock engine. I removed the belt and the three bolts on the pully and thought it should come off easily. Not the case. I driven a tool in between the pully and HB a little ways and thought it should just pop off. Am I missing something? Just want to be sure. I haven't removed the crank bolt yet as this does not seem to be part of the equation from looking at things. I was also looking for a video or detailed step by step directions for an 86 to help me complete this project but haven't found anything yet. Any advice/help/rescue effort would be appreciated. Thank you!
do not take off the center bolt it will come off just a pita soak it withe pb blaster and keep hitting it or if it still runs put the three bolts in a leave a bit loose and start it a few times.

I think that we as a group are a little confused here. The OP is talking about getting the crank pulley off. He's not yet to the Harmonic damper.
Don't need a puller to remove the pulley, typically. Should come right off w/bolts removed. You DO need to remove the center/crank bolt, however, for the pulley to come off of the damper.

We have an absolutely amazing number of opinions on this question!! Mr. 86couper, why wouldn't you try removing the crank center bolt? The pulley would have popped right off!
I did find an error in my '84 FSM, though. For reassembly, it says to install the center bolt before installing the pulley, but you quickly learn that won't work!!
yes that is what I was saying on my lt1 only had to take the 3 bolts out but still a pita.
with you helpful text and pics looks like he needs to pull the 3 bolts and the center bolt with no need to pull the hub to change the pully. learned something new thank you.
