Default 1993 Engine Problems

Hello,
I am a new member and new to Corvettes in general. I sell cars at a dealership and bought a 93 40th anniversary convertible for a great price. I knew I would need to put some money into it to make it right. So I put about 2 grand into the engine to get it running better and to ensure it was not going to leave me sit. I am not a motor head and do not know a lot about engines, but I am friends with all the techs. My one tech friend took care of everything and I know I can trust him. Anyhow, things were running great for a month and then it started making a real loud "clacking" sound. Mike thinks I might need an entire new engine! My question after the long intro is. Where and how much do you think I would need to spend on 350. It does not need to be a crate, used in good condition is fine with me. Thanks in advance, Brian

Maybe the thoughts about an engine purchase is a "rush to judgement". You need I'd think an opinion from a qualified tech as to what your situation actually is. "Clacking" isn't very definitive in itself. How was your $2K spent? What parts? Part $$ value?

Runs/drives and just noisy OR barely runs and considered not drivable?

Is the engine running smooth or rocking or missing. See if you can just listen to localize where the noise is from. Maybe you can take a video with audio so we can hear it.

Or get a second opinion from someone else with some experience.

It sounds like it was coming from the front directly in front of the windshield. It wasn't missing or rocking. Just sounds HORRIBLE! I am hoping it is not an engine. I was fortunate to get into it right so that I could put some money into it and still be ahead. If it needs an engine I would never recoup the money if I chose to sell it. That wasn't my initial intention, but worried about sinking a ton into it.

Recap please. What kind of work did you initially get done?
