System Problems
If “SYS” flashes on the display near your fuel gauge, there may be a problem with your Corvette’s electrical system. If the “SECURITY” light flashes at the same time, there is a problem with your theft deterrent system. Have your vehicle checked by your dealer if “SYS’ keeps appearing.
The one in my 94 has been flashing since I bought it in August. I can't see where it makes a damn bit of difference in running or anything else. I did see where some folks claim they will flash with aftermarket radios because of the lighting in the radios. May be true; I have a JVC deck, so it could apply.

You can source any available GM owners information including the Owners Manual from this GM link and you don't need to establish an account. I believe that the Owners Manual is only available for '93+ models.
That is the number one cause of the flashing SYS, especially if it is something new.

An aftermarket audio system can also cause the flashing SYS
There used to be a link in the audio section regarding a TPS on fixing this issue, but the link no longer works.

When I first bought the car it had a aftermarket radio and the light did flash. When I put the stock radio back in the car it went off. And that's the last time I remember it flashing. Like I said the battery is 6-7 years old. And it only does it when it's cold (40* below). So I guess all signs point to dying battery.

Time for at least a "load test" I'd think and maybe just an evaluation of the entire charging system. Replacing a battery with a failing charging system wouldn't be wise.

The gauge in the dash is reading normal both analog and digital

I get that but that's not really a very accurate or efficient (poor word choice maybe) evaluation of the system. A "for hire" load test of the entire electrical might point you towards a less than ideal alternator charging rate, a poor battery which you suspect which would really strain a good alternator likely to a "failure" of it.
A carry in "load test" of just the battery after it's been charged appropriately is for sure a required "next". A battery removed from the car and just carried in isn't ready for an appropriate "load test".
Just got back from the auto parts store. Where they did a load test on the charging system. The alt came back fine and normal. The battery came out as low. As well the car has a slugish start up. So I did but there better battery. Will be installing shortly.
Just got done with installing battery and the flashing light went off and it starts right up
Sounds like it was relatively "painless" - well maybe the wallet a little but done. Have the AP store do their load test again maybe after putting some miles on it and allowing the battery to maybe arrive to an appropriate charge.

Yeah only 120 bucks painless. But a new battery solved the problem. Better to change it before it leaves me stranded somewhere
