Default 1995 ECM issues

I am currently working on a Jag XJ6 with a ecm #16188051. I suspect the ecm is bad. How can I purchase a new ECM, get it flashed correctly, and not worry about the security aspect?

what is it doing? if is cutting out when hot might be able to resolder it. try putting a cold pack on it to test. also test your icm and coil.

Ran fine. Then intermittently it would run very poor - rich. All under hood tested good. Good spark. Intermittent problem eventually became no-start. Dumping fuel. Can smell it in the exhaust. Replaced MAP. Tried to start with MAF disconnected - no start. Fuel pressure good. Injectors all read 14 ohms.

A Jag XJ6 has a Corvette ECM?

I was able to purchase a re-conditioned ECM for a 95 Corvette, then sent it out to be programmed....had zero problems with security or anything else.

Since the car doesn't have the original ignition I don't know if the ECM will kick a security issue like wrong key.

I would pull the vacumme line off the fpr and smell for fuel. and put a fuel pressure gauge on it and see how long it holds smell your oil don't want a grenade. also check the temp sender plug on the water pump.

That part number is for a 1995 corvette. But it is a PCM not a ECM. Very similar part but very different (used the electronic transmission). The PCM was much more reliable and does not have the frequent and weird problems the ECM has. The ECM was used in 1993 and earlier. There is no replaceable chip and does have to be flashed.

Because it is a PCM I tend to give it a pass at first on being the root cause of a problem on initial opinion and look. I might look first at the O2s and the fuel injectors and FPR leaking. Also check for correct fuel pressure.

Since it is from a 95, it is a OBD1 unit and the corvette used a OBD2 connector. But I have no idea of what connector in that car. I would if possible get in there with a OBD1 scanner and look at the fuel trim and O2 readings. That might give you some direction before you start messing with software.
