Automatic transmission missing reverse
Hi , I have owned my 1994 c4 automatic for about a month now and it has started occasionally missing reverse and nuetral gear and only getting drive and park, after a few minutes of playing around and moving the shifter around it will finally engage and it only has this problem occasionally, any reason for this / solutions?

I suggest looking at the transmission end of the shifter cable first (easiest to get to). Look for anything loose, etc.
Take apart the console and check out the shift lever and associated cables.

If the shifter cable is cracked/deteriorating the case will stretch and compress when the selector is moved. That can restrict the movement of the transmission linkage and mess up shifting. The cable can also be adjusted, the procedure is in the FSM.

Two bolts on the transmission oil pan hold the shifter cable in place.
That is real easy to check.
looking a the cable (shifter) from inside of the car a bit more has to come apart.
