Default The quest for power.

Well this build started about 2 years ago with my T56 swap and is now where you see it in the last post. This will be copy and pasted from another forum (GURU). I will try to remember to edit the answered questions out but may miss one leaving a comment that does not make sense. Either way here it GOES.

Official rolling day MIGHT be August or sooner. Moving 2 hours away and leaving the car at my parents. Will get a storage unit close by once it is moving under its own power and start playing more in a bigger city.

Ok pics time:
T56 all bolts up:

Shifter hole:

Custom bracket:

C-beam bracket for easier install:

Started today by taking out the steering column.
SO MUCH MORE ROOM. Should have done that earlier.
Took out the gas pedal to upgrade the mount to the metal one I got here a few months back.

From here I took out the brake pedal and began test fitting the clutch bracket. Had to cut away some plastic liner and fluff. Used a scribe to punch a hole to mark the master cylinder and bolt hole positions.

Had to move the cruise control to the side for a bit to use a airratchet fitted with a bit to cut the hole BUT:

IT IS IN.

Pedals all installed except the gas.

Oh and Trans is IN completely. Driveshaft back in place with a new yoke.

Next is to put the steering column back in, remount the gas pedal and rebuild the interior.

SRP pedals are in.
Console is DONE.
coated steering wheel adapter so can install nrg hub and mom wheel.

pics:

Last round of updates until my next trip down.

SHE RUNS AGAIN. Timing is set and fires right up.
Clutch has awesome pressure after bleeding it for 15 minutes.

Steering wheel/NRG hub/MOMO all 'on' now.

Need a nice piece of cloth to put down in the hole to tidy it up a touch.

Next time I am down I WILL be driving it. Just need to put a few more plastics on, driver seat, and 'new' cigarette lighter location.

It lives.

Drives great. Nice and smooth. all gears go in fine. No grinds.

Let me start by saying I am aiming for 450rwhp NA and 750rwhp on 12-15lbs of boost. Will throw on a 18-20lb pulley just for fun since that what my 3inch pulley should net.

Mamomortors works heads
235cc runners. Biggest exhaust valve he could fit.
Flow numbers to come soon.

Correct alignment Yella Terra 1.6 shaft mount rockers.

Hoping to have everything for my short block by Janaury as my block will take a while to come in then off to the machine shop.

Who likes flow numbers that will hopefully net me 450rwhp NA before I throw on the blower?

.200....158....131
.300....221....189
.400....270....219
.500....305....238
.600....330....249
.700....341....254
.800....346....258

Cam specs:
227/239 .616/.606 on 114+4

Valves:
in: 2.125
ex: 1.625

65cc chambers making it 9.31 cr

valve seats are cut to 47* and bowls blended.

Max RPM is 6700 with 6500 shift point.

Made it home to check out the parts cache.

ARP everything with some gaskets and my melling pump.

My bearings. Tri metal throughout.

Some Total seal rings.

Cam came in:
Card.

Nice and shiny.

Big box fun:
What could it be?

Just a dragon.

Little more callies:
Ultra H XD beams.

Should hold up.

The slugs:
CP bullets

4.125 -20.5 cc dished

1.125 compression height

Big pins

oh and a closet full of other parts

Block is 'set' to ship on Feb 11th as of right now.

But on the bright side more parts came in and I started fabbing a few needed pieces.
First the rest of the driveline hardware.
Got a flowkooler after they were recommended to me.

24x timing cover with built in crank and cam position sensor. Wiring harness from 24x is on the way. Getting rid of the entire mess of a TPI system.

Also the trick double roller timing chain and reluctor wheel to go with it.

Issue with this setup is you need a balancer 1.325" thick or less. In comes ATI dampner at 1.2" thick.

Lets not forget something to hold all the power. McLeod Street twin. 1200hp should hold pretty well.

Last but not least is what I very excited about: ANALOGS.
GPS speedo, 8K with shiftlight tach, all the other vitals. Have an A/F already mounted in car for those wondering.

Well it is in shortblock, nearly longblock status. Need to measure for pushrods degree cam then start the swap.

Dart lil M 400 built with callies, cp, and AFR.

Champ RR pan.

Made some more progress.

TB came in

Ended up with crane link bars

Last pics for a few weeks:

Valve covers/breathers on.
8in crank pulley, ATI balancer on. Canister is for humidity.

Rickstanks modified a stock tank with a nice sump, baffles and some fueling ports.

Alt came in. 180A billet unit. Shouldnt have any issues anymore.

Restarting on this old project.

Made it down to the shop for a day of work.
Biggest goal heading down was getting the fuel tank out.

Mission accomplished.

New sumped tank in cradle to check fitment. Will all be cleaned and painted before reassembly.

Box of Redhorse fittings and hose. 10AN from tank to intake. Y to 6AN to each rail. 6AN return to fuel tank.

Other fun was my decision to kill part of my K member to go to a larger crank pulley and smaller SC pulley if needed and make changing the belts easier. That means front Coilovers.
As I have an 85 I will be following LD85's example on that other forum with QA1's and fabbed towers. While apart new bushings and the arms getting powdercoated seem in order.

Also new wheel bearings and painted spindles.

Lil things done while I was away.

Gas tank cradle and gas tank painted.
Yes that is a tow hitch for my race trailer. Completely hidden with the ball off.

Upper and lower A-Arms cleaned and powdercoated. New ball joints on the way.

Little more work done.

Interior is a complete mess. PCM, heater core, hvac, info console out. Still sorting wires.
Engine harness is pulled but working on seperating to keep what I need.

Finally made it back to the shop. Hate living 3 hours away.

To start the gas tank is finished. Fancy new top. Using only the sender.

AC/Heater delete finished. Likely home of Meth tank.

Motor at home.

Front Coilovers with new towers finished. A-arms coated black with new pushings throughout and new wheel bearings/studs.

Had to notch the K member frame slightly for YSi fitment. Notched welded and painted.

Intercooler is being built by NoCornersCut fabrication in San Antonio Texas. They build the big kits for C6s, 2200hp big.
Going with a 28x8x3.5 core. Supports 1500hp. Oval exit out of the top with a 3in entrance.
Overall size will be 28x15.5-16x3.5

Cardboard is measure and adjust.

Slight angle

[/URL]

Moving Radiator shroud back 1 inch for better clearance.

Perfect exit.

Man I need more time off work to hang out in the shop.

Finished painting the rear. Gas tank and carriage are going in next visit.

I remember a post about not being able to use the big optima batteries. I have to cruise control so no issues here.
Will be using both the time and side posts.

Just needed a little trimming.

Gauge cluster is made and braced. Off to powdercoating it goes.

Also finished up the center gauges and just need to finish cutting holes out for the switches and off it goes to powdercoat also.

I did some talking and thinking and bit the bullet.
Intercooler and Meth it is.
AIS makes a very sexy 3qrt underhood meth tank

and Julio over and Alky control has a bitching meth controller setup that ties into my existing 3bar map sensor.

Another trip another round of progress.

Start with getting the gas tank in and planning fuel pump location and line routing.
Plan is to run the fuel lines along the passenger side.

Then I modified my new fan shroud to fit snuggly with my radiator. This is a BIG dual 12in spal setup.

Sitting in front of this setup will be my behemoth of an A2A intercooler. 28x8x3.5 core.

This I mocked up my gauge clusters. Small 3 had small tilts to aim towards the driver.

Then the biggest feat of all was first SC mock up.
Don't mind discharge orientation. I hadn't rotated it yet.

But something didn't look right.
Took apart the supercharger. Painted the compressor and taking the discharge to be powdercoated.

Then I had some time left over so I installed my meth tank and pump.

T56 came back from GForce. Once the new rear gets here I will get it in and measure for a new driveshaft.
Need to mount catch can and oil cooler.
Weld tabs on the IC.
Headlights are almost done.
Still working on the wiring mess but getting closer.

All in all I am shooting for July for first drive.

Nice build you have going on there. What brand of headers do you have in the first pics? I had to section & offset the driver side collector to clear the clutch slave. I know you'll be measuring, but my new driveshaft is 1" shorter than stock. I looked at all the reverse lock-out options and just put a heavy spring in place of the solenoid. Every thing on my wish list, you are doing to yours. I like it a lot.

Melrose. They were a dream to put in compared to a few others I tried. No bending or denting needed.

A T56 with strange yoke to a Hammerhead 12 bolt 33 spline setup?
I thought I was the first with this setup.

Nice setup you should easily get 450 RWHP with that setup before boost. I would actually expect closer to 500 RWHP.

I was hoping for 425 with the blower cam and 9.4 cr. A cam and headgasket swap and I would expect 440rwhp or so.

Nice big build, don't see many here anymore.
Why not a bigger cam to take advantage of the heads? It will matter less with the blower, but still. I would use a thinner gasket to try to get the compression up to at least 10 to help responsiveness. The Alky kit is a good buy, I have one too. Are you gong to tune for power or just safety with the meth?

Cam is huge but mild in ram rates and an average sized cam for a low 4xx with 225-270(ls3 heads). Somewhat apples to oranges due to being gen1 vs gen4.

Either way it should have great street manners and a slight lope.

I want the added safety margin and a little slower off the line will help with traction coming out of corners. Lower in the tq curve.

The meth will be an octane piggyback more than anything. I will get the car running with the 3in pulley and see what she does. I can step down to a 2.7 for max power.

Yes and no. I am travelling 3 months a year in one location then to another and so on. I currently have it now but can't guarantee it will be at the next.

This way I will be able to survive as long as I can or methanol or get by with 70/30 meth/water.

No sir. No room. I live in Texas so year round is not an issue. I never used the AC since I have owned the car. I know it worked just never flipped it on since I enjoyed the windows down and top off. Heater was finicky and may have been a heater core going bad but all of that is gone now.

Once I sober up tomorrow I will post a small update.
I live 3 hours away from the car so try to get down to it every two weeks.
My old man does some small stuff for me and he is a great help and inspiration at his age (62) but I think it helps keep him active. Plus this was our first father son project back when I was 16. 8 years later I started this crazy idea and will have it out and running by the 10 year anniversary of it first hitting the streets. This time with 4x the power.

Banski arm kit throughout in the rear. Front and rear coilovers. Already have bigger swaybars. Rollcage to stiffen the cahssis. New bushings/bearings everywhere.

Only thing I am toying with is hydroboost brakes but that will depend on how my breaks are affected with the available vacuum.

Another weekend. Another round of progress.
This weekend was 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

First was mocking up the fuel system. Didn't get any pictures but ordering the last of my needed AN fittings today.
10AN from tank to pump to firewall. split to 2 6AN for each rail. 6AN from rails to AFR and a single 6AN back to fuel tank.
Need a 90 for my FP gauge sensor but this thing looks like an alien.

Supercharger is back and all together.

Only thing missing is the alternator. AC delete bracket and tensioner powdercoated and fitting like a charm.

Little size reference for IC. Using a 4in 60* coupler with a slight lean looks like it will clear the hood. Getting the brackets welded on this week then the end tanks with be coated black and core lightly painted black with a possible symbol/phrase. Any help here? Have 8x28 to deal with.

When I started this build I planned to see how long the D36 would last. Then I said screw it and ordered a hammerhead 12bolt rear in 33spline from StreetShop Inc. This meant the rear must come out.

This will make it easier to do the rear coilovers aswell.
While the rear is out the rear spindles will be taken apart coated and new bearings installed.
