They can tear with age and leak fuel into the sump via the vacuum hose, or leak through the hose onto engine and result in fire.
I recommend replacing the diaphragm as well, cheap insurance.

Thanks for the reply. I started my car this morning and raw gas was coming out of the exhaust. Pulled the vacuum line to regulator and there was gas there so I'm in the process of removing plenum now to get to the regulator.
