Default 383 starter and headers problem

Hi guys, I have a 1989 Corvette with a 383 Stroker swap with long tube headers. Got a big problem. So when I bought it, the starter power cable was running under the car, under the oil pan and up to the starter. I found it odd and dangerous in the event of bottoming out. Also, the heater overheated within the first day of owning it so I removed the starter. Found it internally fried and just burnt out from the headers being so close. A friend of mine decided to buy a 78in cable and re route the starter cable over the top next to the fire wall and drop down to the new starter which was also heat wrapped. I added some heat wrap the cable to protect it from the headers. Well, when we started it up, all was fine and dandy, until I pulled away and a fire broke out. The top of the cable slipped down and made contact with the header and burned up. Is there any way to route a cable without it running under the oil pan or super close to the headers?

The stock hot starter cable goes above the motor by the firewall. Maybe look at an original c4. I've been running longtubes forever and haven't had an issue.

I used a combination of header wrap where the pipes pass the starter and heat sleeve on all the wiring, and used a clamp to the firewall,

Nice, I ended up running the cable down on the driver side, along the frame to the front and back up right under the tranny lines to the starter, wrapped the entire thing in heat shield wrap (sticky) and zip tying it in a lot of areas then secured it to all the areas. Fire proof now! Thanks for the info guys. Took some thought and patience but it's the best looking part in this project now haha!
