I have a 92 vette LT1 that will not start and has a code 16. No spark on any plugs or at the coil. I am try to ilminate any problems before replacing the optisaprk unit. ANY info would be greatly apprietiated as I am new to working on an lt1 engine. I had a radiator hose burst from a small crack that was in it and somthing got wet and it died there and then. :cry Please tell me all other options it may be before I order an optispark unit. Im thinking the Ignition module??? One more thing... this vett was acting like the timeing was off a couple days before it shut down on me. It was fine under heavy acceleration but did cough when changing gears under heavy acceleration. Normal accell was bad though. I put a new Hypertech chip in and it was the same only more prononced.
Re: 92 vette start problems code 16 HELP! (vette92_1)
Try to replace the coil first. Bad coil= no start and spark. If the new coil ($35) don't fix it. Than its your bad optic. Long time a go. My car don't start. replaced new coil. Its fire it right up.
Re: 92 vette start problems code 16 HELP! (sebvette)
Ah, the Code 16, low resolution opti code. New coils don't hurt. Still, sounds like you may need the opti. Let us know if the coil fixes the problem. I think maybe one of your optical sensor sytems may have gotten fogged over during the water release problem. Based on what I've been seeing, don't even sneeze near the opti.

Hope your car gets fixed.

what he said.
the low res is what controls the injection batch fire.
to be honest, replacing the opti is not that hard, really. just takes time.
if you decide to do it, replace the waterpump and the opti... good insurance!

Here's one cheap in the FS section: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=378751
BTW: Code 16 is definately the optispark. If the ecm doesn't receive the low res signal, nothing will filre... including the coil! Ask Nathen, he just went through this a couple of days ago! Be prepared to go after the water pump and the opti at the same time.
