My 1989 has never displayed codes even though I have had problems with
Cat converter, overheating, fuel pump and now hard start. It seems to run very rich after hard start. Runs ok until I stop and try to restart. I have to push gas pedal half way in order to get restarted. I jump the A & B terminal but only get code 12 even after 10 cycles. What am I doing wrong? Or what else could be a problem.
Thank you
Code 12 definitely doesn't help. Running rich is going to be sensor. Get an electrical tester, and start checking. As for no codes, I would think that is computer related. h
Sounds like leaky injectors or fpr get a fuel pressure gauge on it and pump it up without starting and see how fast it drops after the key is turned off. Pull the vacuum line off the fpr and smell for fuel. Ohm out your injectors hot and cold.

Problem with a code 12 is it is misleading. Many people think it means there is no problem. As I understand it from the way it was explained, it means that there is no sensor that falls outside of plausible values. Doesn't mean the value is correct. It means it is inside of a given window.
Lets start with the usual culprits. Fuel, Air and Spark. I think that unless you have an obstruction in the air passage from the filter to the chamber, it is ok. So do you have fuel? Check the fuel pressure when it is experiencing the problem. Check the spark. Do you have a blue flame at the time?
The ECM in these cars is pretty stupid. It can only detect shorts and opens. It's not surprising that you're not getting codes unless something is really wrong.
To my responders.. Yes. After starting the engine and shutting it down I pulled the vacuum hose off of the FPR and fuel ran out. It looks like I will have to remove the plenum in order to replace the regulator. Correct me if I'm wrong. Many thanks again

Have fun do not over torque and will need a security bit for the screws. change your oil it has fuel in it.
Just buy the diaphragm and make sure the button is shiny and smooth before you leave the store there was a bad run of them.

If you are going there, and you have to, I'd do the injectors and IAC. Call FIC and see if you have Multecs for injectors. If so, toss them. Or maybe you can buy rebuilt Bosch 3 injectors. Disassemble the IAC housing and clean the passages and housing.

It never ends. I found the hose (pictures) under the plenum and it is not connected to anything on one end. The other end goes to a junction that has the small tube from the EGR valve connected to it and 2 wires that go to the wiring loom along the valve cover.
Any help will be appreciated. Mike
Look under your hood. There should be a vacuum diagram somewhere or someone can scan it for you. I'd do it but my car is a 91 so.....Better than nothing but not as good as someone who does have one for your car.
