Hey there everyone! Been a while since I've posted. I have a 1987 automatic white/red beauty. I did u-joints on my half shafts last week and when I went to test drive I had a slight idle issue. Long story short I found the brake booster to be at fault. So with that being said I'm shopping for another one. I was skimming zip-corvette and they have a new one that is made with steel instead of plastic, has anyone installed one of these and had good results? Good fitment? It seems cheaper than the other new aftermarket ones. Is remanufactured okay to get? I can get a reman for roughly 80 and that new steel one for 130. I'd prefer a new one to save headaches but if no ones had issues with remans then I'll save the 50 bucks
I'm basically looking for recommended manufacturers and brake boosters you've had good luck with and tips on instillation. I've done plenty of them before on different vehicles but curious if the C4 has a different way of doing it.
I put a reman plastic one in my '87 after I cracked it pulling the engine. That was a year ago with no problems since. You probably want to pull the driver's seat to get at it. There's one nut that's a PITA, but overall not a terrible job.
I'd pull vacuum on it before you install it to make sure it holds.

I appreciate the response! Who did you order your booster from?
And I'll be sure to double check the seals and that it holds vacuum. No one wants to do the same job twice
Replaced on my 91 last year. Got the new one from Rock Auto ( I'm in the UK ). Its not difficult just damn fiddly, I spent a lot of time lying in the drivers footwell on my back. Make sure you have a buddy with you as once you are in there its not easy to get out for every tool you need etc A headlight or torch helps also.
I just replaced the one on my 87, too. Bought it from Rock Auto-even with shipping and the core charge, it was less expensive than getting one at O'Rielly. My old one was not holding vacuum. After replacing it, my brakes felt a lot better and even the climate control seems to be working better, probably due to no more vacuum leak! I'm very happy with the Rock Auto part so far.........
Cardone is the part that all the part stores carry. I like to buy that part locally with a life time guarantee or if a problem occurs. Its easy to exchange and handle when its local. I say this because of the experience I have had.
I have had no trouble with the plastic. An upgrade will cost you from a special supplier. I have been using AZ which worked good for me however I'm sure there are others.
