I have removed the switch several time and manually moved the piston grove to the center. Light goes off until brake pedal is pressed. Why does it keep moving? There is no brake fluid in the switch cavity. What can I do that I haven't already tried?
Another MC??
Think about the circumstances under which movement of that piston is possible, and under which it is impossible, and you will be closer to your answer. (The need for a different master cylinder is unlikely.)

I have never seen a master cylinder like this much less replaced one. I replaced the MC on my 99 Z71 a couple of weeks ago and had no problems. Bench bled it the way I did this one. Did not have to bleed any of the calipers.
The only thing we can come up with is there is still air in the system somewhere or the value in the MC is bad. If you read the threads above you can see what we have done. We have run around 3 pints of fluid through the system. Vacuum and manual bleeding.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Unless my understanding is faulty, the only way the little spool can get off center is if there is an unequal amount of fluid movement in the two systems. Once all of the caliper pistons are firmly seated against the brake pads, I cannot think of any way for that to happen except for air in one of the systems.

The piston is always off center toward the rear. Should that indicate which system the problem is in? Maybe the rear??
Problem solved. Defective MC. Put the old MC back on and light went off and stayed off. Sending it back to Rock Auto. Going to try a different brand this time. Not sure what.
I am having to he same exact problem with my 84, I installed a new Cardone Select and the light will not go out, my original mc is in need of repair, going to try to find a rebuild kit or try the Dorman unit.

Good luck. It's frustrating (time consuming and expensive)when you have to eliminate all possible problems before you can assume it is the MC. Not sure what I am going to do - maybe a new Raybestos.
