I dont know if they were original or what but they were on there when I got the car. I suspect they were original.
I also suspect that they were shot. I know that after a couple of years, we took out those in my F-body and after compressing them, you could literally smoke a cigarette waiting for them to be fully extended. Still, even if they were OE, you can have them rebuilt but the warranty is 90 days. My Tokikos were way better than stock but it has been so long, I can't remember more than liking them after they were installed.
I had Monroes; two sets. Both leaked. Garbage, IMO
I had the original Bilsteins rebuilt/revalved to Corvette Challenge specs on this Z51 car. I love them with less rebound and pverall, much smoother ride in the real world, giving nothing up in handling.
I learned cheap is NOT! (nor is it rewarding)
What value is it knowing what Porsche or any other car uses? Corvette engineers might know a thing or two about these cars, but one must understand their design goals.

I tend to wonder what people mean by "cheap". Does it mean less initial outlay but higher overall cost or does it mean higher initial cost but less overall? I suppose it depends on the goals. If you are trying to keep this car forever, why pay less today and more tomorrow? OTOH, if you are getting rid of the car soon, might as well pay less today and let the follow up cost be somebody else's problem.
And YOUR goals. The GM engineers might have cost and emissions, etc, etc on their list of "must have" goals. One, the other or neither might be MY goal so it might be best to draw out a list of MY goals and not GAS about the engineer's goal.
